Dimethylamine (C4H11N)

1. Also known as Diethamine, Dimethylamine is of the solution:

2. Dimethylamine is a highly flammable, corrosive, colorless liquid with an ammonia odor. It was one of the primary and secondary amines detected in fresh vegetables, apples, preserves, mixed pickles, bread, and animal foodstuff.

3. Dimethylamine is used as a pH controller in coatings, a catalyst for polyurethanes, and a fuel and lubricant additive. This substance can also be used for the production of some pesticides, insect repellants, and in pharmaceuticals.

4. Acute exposure to Dimethylamine can cause respiratory tract irritations, chest pain, shortness of breath and damage to the lungs and mucous membranes.

5. Straight activated carbon has a low capacity for Dimethylamine. The use of an appropriate specially impregnated carbon is recommended.
