Hydrogen Bromide (HBr)

1. Also known as Hydrobromic acid, Hydrogen Bromide is of the solution:

2. Hydrogen Bromide is colorless, corrosive, nonflammable gas with a pungent odor.

3. This substance attacks many metals, forming flammable hydrogen gas. Primarily, Hydrogen Bromide is used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals as well as other fine chemical industries.

4. Hydrogen Bromide can be corrosive to the skin and eyes. Inhalation can cause a burning sensation to the mucus membranes, coughing, and sore throat.

5. Straight activated carbon has a low capacity for Hydrogen Bromide. The use of an appropriate specially impregnated carbon is recommended.
