Hydrogen Chloride (HCl)

1. Also known as Hydrochloric acid, Hydrogen Chloride is of the solution:

2. Hydrogen Chloride is a colorless or slightly yellowish corrosive, nonflammable gas with a strong irritation odor.

3. This substance is formed commercially by the reaction of sulfuric acid with sodium chloride. Applications for Hydrogen Chloride include cleaning, pickling, electroplating metals, and producing a wide range of products.

4. Acute exposure to Hydrogen Chloride may cause throat and respiratory irritation, while high levels of exposure may cause rapid breathing, build up of fluid in the lungs, and death.

5. Austin Air filters have a limited capacity for this particular substance but will provide a sufficient service adsorbing the Hydrogen Chloride under the particular conditions of operation. The use of special impregnated carbon is recommended.
