Bromine (Br)

1. Bromine, discovered in 1826 but not prepared until 1860, is the only liquid nonmetallic element. It is a heavy volatile, mobile, and dangerous reddish-brown liquid.

2. Bromine has a strong, unpleasant odor and its vapor causes irritation to the skin and eyes.

3. Bromine is used in the making of water purification compounds, military gasoline, dyes, and sanitizers.
