Formalin (CH2O)

1. Also known as Methanal and Formalin, Formaldehyde is of the solution:
Carbon

Oxygen

2. Formaldehyde is a clear, colorless gas with a pungent and suffocating odor. This chemical is extremely toxic and even limited exposure may cause death.

3. Naturally and industrially made, Formaldehyde is an important chemical used to produce building materials, household products, wood products, and insulation products. Formaldehyde is also used in glues and preservatives. In the home, wood paneling, rugs, and upholstery can off gas Formaldehyde.

4. Acute exposure to Formaldehyde may result in eye, nose, throat, and respiratory irritation. Long term exposure may cause cancer and death.

5. Straight activated carbon has a limited capacity for Formaldehyde. The use of an appropriate specially impregnated carbon is recommended.
