Isopentadiene (C5H8)

1. Also known as Isopentadiene, Isoprene is of the solution:

2. Isoprene is a colorless, flammable liquid with an aromatic odor. Even though this chemical is primarily obtained as a by-product of naphtha cracking, it is estimated 500 million tons of Isoprene is emitted from trees and plants a year.

3. Isoprene is used in the manufacturing of synthetic rubber and adhesive sealants.

4. Exposure to Isoprene may cause irritation to the skin, nose, and respiratory tract.

5. Straight activated carbon has a limited capacity for Isoprene. The use of an appropriate specially impregnated carbon is recommended.
