Hydroiodic Acid (HI)

1. Also known as Hydroiodic acid, Hydrogen Iodide is of the solution:
Hydrogen
Iodine

2. Hydrogen Iodide is a colorless, nonflammable, corrosive gas with a pungent, suffocating odor.

3. Produced by combining hydrogen and iodine under heat with a catalyst, this substance is used to manufacture hydroiodic acid and organic iodine compounds.

4. Exposure to Hydrogen Iodide by inhalation may cause a burning sensation in the respiratory tract, coughing, and shortness of breath.

5. Straight activated carbon has a limited capacity for Hydrogen Iodide. The use of an appropriate specially impregnated carbon is recommended.
